Magnifying Glass
Oddpod's magnifying glasses cover everything from a pocket-size 8x lens for reading pill bottles to a 48-LED full-page magnifier for large-print books. Whether you need a spot lens for inspecting jewellery and coins, a hands-free rig for long reading sessions, or a folding pocket magnifier for travel, the right pick comes down to magnification power, lens size, and how long you'll be holding it.
What is a magnifying glass used for?
A magnifying glass bends light through a curved lens to enlarge whatever's underneath it. Beyond reading small print on medicine strips, newspapers, and books, they're used for close-up hobby work like stamp and coin collecting, jewellery inspection, embroidery and craft work, checking circuit boards or watch parts, and helping people with low vision read comfortably without eye strain.
Handheld magnifiers
Classic handheld glass-lens magnifiers, best for casual reading, nature walks, and everyday use around the house.
| Model | Lens size | Magnification | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8x Handheld Magnifier – Large | 100 mm | 8x | 180 gm |
| 8x Handheld Magnifier – Medium | 75 mm | 8x | 120 gm |
| 5D Handheld Magnifier | 21 x 9 x 1.5 cm | 3x/5x | 95 gm |

LED & folding magnifiers
Illuminated and folding options for detail work, low-light reading, and travel. LED models are best when you're inspecting fine print, jewellery, or documents rather than reading for long stretches.
| Model | Magnification | Power | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| 18 LED Foldable Magnifier | 10x main / 30x spot lens | 18 LED, 3 light modes, 3x AAA | 250 gm |
| 48 LED Handheld Magnifier | 5x | 48 LED, 3 light modes, 3x AAA | 140 gm |
| 40x LED Magnifier | 40x | 2 LED, 3x AAA | 150 gm |
| 10X Aluminum Magnifier | 10x | LED, 2x AA | 300 gm |
| 10X Folding Magnifier | 10x | No light | 120 gm |
| 10X Folding Magnifier LED | 10x | LED, button cells (included) | 130 gm |
Hands-free magnifiers
Worn on a neck sling so both hands stay free — built for long reading sessions, crafting, or sewing where you'd otherwise be holding a handheld magnifier for an hour at a stretch.
| Model | Magnification | Power | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4-LED Handsfree Magnifier | 2.5x | 2x AAA | 300 gm |
| 12-LED Handsfree Magnifier | 3x | 3x AAA or USB cord (included) | 300 gm |
How to choose a magnifying glass
Match magnification to the task. 2.5x-5x is enough for general reading and full pages of text — go higher and the field of view shrinks too much to read comfortably. 8x-10x suits smaller print, labels, and hobby work. For genuinely tiny detail — jewellery hallmarks, coin dates, watch parts — you need 30x-40x, but at that power the lens is small and the sharp-focus distance is only a centimetre or two, so it's a spot-check tool, not something you read a book through.
Handheld vs. hands-free. A handheld magnifier is fine for quick look-ups, but your arm tires fast if you're using it continuously. If you're reading for 20+ minutes at a time — a novel, dense paperwork, embroidery — a hands-free neck-worn magnifier keeps both hands free and removes the fatigue.
LED lighting matters more than the magnification number. A dim room defeats a magnifier faster than low power does — text under a 5x lens with good light is often easier to read than the same text under a 10x lens in poor light. If you'll use it in the evening, near a bed, or workshop, pick an LED model.
Folding designs are for your pocket or bag, not your desk. The 10X Folding Magnifiers close down to a flat 50 x 56 mm case — ideal for travel or carrying daily — but that compact size means a smaller lens than the full-size handheld models.
Magnifying glass FAQs
What magnification is best for everyday reading? 2.5x to 8x. Anything higher shrinks the field of view too much for comfortable reading of full lines of text.
What does "10x/30x" mean on the 18 LED Foldable Magnifier? It has two lenses in one unit — a wider 10x main lens for general reading, plus a small embedded 30x spot lens for zooming in on fine detail like serial numbers or hallmarks.
Do I need the LED versions? Only if you'll use the magnifier somewhere dim — bedside reading, workshops, evenings. In good daylight, a non-LED lens works just as well and is lighter.
Can these be used for jewellery, coin, or stamp inspection? Yes — the 40x LED Magnifier, 10X Aluminum Magnifier, and 10X Folding Magnifiers are sized and powered for that kind of close inspection work.
Do batteries come included? Only the 10X Folding Magnifier LED ships with its button cells. All other battery-powered models need AA or AAA batteries bought separately; the 12-LED Handsfree Magnifier can also run off its included USB cable.
Is shipping free? Yes, free shipping across India on all Oddpod orders.
